The Players Cup hosted by Jonathan Toews officially announces charitable recipients

New beneficiary The St-Boniface Hospital Foundation joins The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation as primary charities of the event.

Winnipeg - The Players Cup hosted by Jonathan Toews has announced the recipients of the funds raised at this year’s event. The St-Boniface Hospital Foundation will join returning charity The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation as the principal beneficiaries of all funds raised throughout the week.

“Last year was an amazing experience and The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation is extremely thrilled to be involved again,” says Christine Schollenberg, Executive Director of The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation. “We believe the 2011 event is going to be one of Manitoba’s premiere summer events. And even though there are many important participants involved, we believe Manitoba’s children living with disabilities who need equipment and programs will be the big winners.”

“We’re excited to be a beneficiary of The Players Cup hosted by Jonathan Toews,” says Chuck LaFlèche, President and CEO of The St-Boniface Hospital Foundation. “Couple that with the addition of amalgamating our exisiting Cardiac Classic tournament to the Canadian Tour Pro-Am, and we’re looking forward to a great week on the course.”

The Players Cup hosted by Jonathan Toews has set a goal this year to donate $200,000 to local charities. A goal that is achievable and will do a lot for the organizations involved.

“At the end of the day, it’s having a commitment to giving back to our community,” says Ryan Hart, Executive Director of The Players Cup. “We can achieve this goal together as there are still some great sponsorship opportunities available.”

Event host and Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews agrees. “I was very blessed growing up and giving back to others was always ingrained in me. I’m looking forward to continue building on last year and this year and giving back to a Winnipeg community that has given so much to me.”

With the second highest purse on the Canadian Tour and an automatic exemption to The Canadian Open, The Players Cup draws the elite of the Canadian Tour every year - a tour whose graduates include such notable names as Mike Weir, Tim Clark, Stuart Appleby, Steve Stricker, Chris DiMarco, Nick Watney and Stephen Ames, and offers Manitoba golf fans the opportunity to see the next crop of PGA TOUR stars on the cusp of making it big. It will be held once again this year at Pine Ridge Golf Club, July 11th - 17th.
