Winnipeg – The Players Cup is extremely excited to announce a new charity partnership for 2010. FORE Kids, a non-profit charitable organization that has raised over $30,000 for the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, will be hosting the first annual Boston Pizza Jonathan Toews FORE Kids Golf Classic on July 12th, 2010 at Pine Ridge Golf Club.
The tournament will feature an 18-hole alternate shot format with a mixed field of children and adults. The two-person teams are to be made up of a child (ages 8-17) and a friend or family member (parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle).
“We are ecstatic to be a part of this year’s Players Cup” says Ryan Hart, Chairman of FORE Kids. “Getting kids on the golf course is great, but giving them the chance to meet Canadian Tour players and Olympic champion Jonathan Toews is going to be really special.”
The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation focuses on ensuring that children with special needs or disabilities access to the resources to enable them to enjoy childhood like other children, by funding specialized programs and equipment that would otherwise not be available for them.
“Having FORE Kids on board with The Players Cup is a great thing,” says The Players Cup Executive Director Nicole McMillan, “it’s a cause that we really believe in and look forward to helping.”
Winnipeg’s own Olympic champion Jonathan Toews will be on hand to cheer on the kids as they take to the course. “This is an important event,” says Toews. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of it.”
As a Canadian Tour flagship event, The Players Cup is the only professional event in Canada that grants an exemption for the winner to play in a PGA Tour event, The RBC Canadian Open. It also awards the second highest purse on the Canadian Tour and attracts the top PGA Tour prospects on the Canadian Tour. It will be taking place at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba July 12th to 18th, 2010.
